Refund & Returns

This is a plain-language draft to be reviewed by counsel. It is not legal advice.

The short version

You're joining a 100-person Alpha. Your $50 unit is sold at cost — you're helping fund and shape an early build, not buying a finished retail product. The policy is simple: if something arrives defective or damaged, we'll make it right. If you put down the refundable $10 waitlist deposit, you get it back, no questions. The details below spell out how.

What "Alpha" means for returns

The Alpha unit is an early, evolving build. Current prototypes are 3D-printed, and materials are still being explored — so small variations between units, and between your unit and the eventual Kickstarter version, are expected and not considered defects.

Because the unit is sold at cost (not at a markup), we can't offer open-ended "changed my mind" refunds on Alpha units — there's no margin to absorb it. What we can do is stand behind the build itself. See the next section.

If you're not sure the Alpha is right for you, the free Launch Waitlist holds a warm spot instead — no charge, no commitment.

Defects and damage

If your unit arrives defective, damaged in transit, or doesn't match what was described, you can request a replacement or a full refund within [RETURN_WINDOW] (e.g., 30 days) of delivery.

To help us sort it quickly, a photo of the issue is usually all we need — you may not have to ship anything back.

This covers things like cracked or warped hardshell, sheets that don't seat correctly, or a wrong/missing item. It does not cover normal Alpha-build variation, or wear from everyday use over time.

The $10 waitlist deposit

The optional $10 Launch Waitlist deposit is fully refundable. It bumps you to the front of the line at Kickstarter launch; it is not a purchase.

Here's how it resolves:

  • Apply it: At Kickstarter launch, put the $10 toward your order. It comes off your total.
  • Refund it: Prefer not to order? Ask for it back any time and we'll return the full $10 — no reason needed. If you don't act by the end of the launch window, we refund it automatically.
  • Timing: Deposit refunds are issued to your original payment method, typically within [REFUNDPROCESSINGTIME] (e.g., 5–10 business days) of your request or of the launch window closing.

Joining the waitlist without a deposit is free and carries no charge to refund.

Non-returnable items

For hygiene, safety, and at-cost reasons, the following can't be returned unless they arrive defective or damaged:

  • Clear polycarbonate sheets and sheet multi-packs, once opened.
  • Items reported outside the [RETURN_WINDOW] window.
  • Damage caused by misuse, drops, or modification.

If one of these arrives with a defect, the defect policy above still applies — reach out and we'll take care of it.

How to start a return

Email [SUPPORT_EMAIL] with:

  1. Your order number (or the email you signed up with).
  2. A short description of the issue.
  3. A photo, if it's a defect or damage.

We'll reply with next steps. If we need the item back, we'll tell you where to send it.

Refund timing

Once a return or refund is approved, we issue it to your original payment method, typically within [REFUNDPROCESSINGTIME] (e.g., 5–10 business days). Your bank or card provider may take a few extra days to post it.

Who pays return shipping

  • Our mistake (defect, damage, wrong item): we cover return shipping, and we'll send a prepaid label if a return is needed.
  • Anything else we agree to take back: return shipping is on you.

If you're ever unsure, just ask at [SUPPORT_EMAIL] before sending anything — we'd rather sort it together than have a package go astray.
